Our Place in the Golden Valley is a collaborative project developed in partnership with Meadow Arts, working with residents, staff, and volunteers across the rural Golden Valley area in southwest Herefordshire.

The project centres on photographic portraiture as a collaborative process, inviting participants to shape how they are represented and how their stories are shared. Through workshops and ongoing engagement, the work builds a collective picture of the community from within.

Outcomes include large-scale installations, functional objects, and site-responsive artworks—from café interiors to healthcare settings—embedded in everyday spaces in three community hubs: Kingstone Surgery, The Hub Café (St Peter’s Church, Peterchurch), and G.V. Café, Pontrilas.

The project explores how identity, belonging, and visibility are constructed collectively, positioning participants as collaborators in the making of the work. It also examines the relationship between health and creativity, and the role creative activity can play in reducing isolation.

Our Place Golden Valley is a Meadow Arts project, part of the Our Place Herefordshire programme funded by the National Lottery through Arts Council England, with match funding from Herefordshire Council under the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
